A-Side ”Kävelin kerran (Ongelmanjoen suussa)”
This text is usually heard with the lilting tune, ”Soutelin, Soutelin”, but my ear heard a different melody. Thanks to Koinurit for recording this song.

B-Side ”Velisurmaaja”
”Velisurmaaja” is the very first Finnish song I ever learned to sing (when I was about ten years old). The English and and Scots have similar ballad in ”Edvard” an the Swedes in ”Sven i Rosengård”, but the cadence and natural alliteration of the Finnish language makes ”Velisurmaaja” the best of the three.

Dedicated to my father who raised me with the Kalevala and made being Finnish an important part of my heritage.
