While in the midst of creating New Noise, Maret drew from literary, sonic, and musical inspirations. She was unexpectedly illuminated by Clarissa Pinkola Estes’ book, Women Who Run with the Wolves, a text which dives into the correlation between society’s myths and our ability to maintain healthy psyches. In particular, Maret was drawn to Estes’ discussion of the “wild woman” archetype, prompting her to explore it through her musical output.
