This album was originally recorded in 1976 during the "Delicate And Jumpy" recording sessions. One of this days, the main producer -Gene Page- called in sick. Since the recording session was already paid, Jerry Masucci and Johnny Pacheco managed to set an improv session with "Los Seis de la Fania" (Pacheco, Lucca, Barreto, Valentín, Roena and Marrero) that were already there and ready to jam. At the end of the Columbia-Fania contract in 1980, this full day recording session was then mastered and released as the "California Jam", a Fania Records album.
