Late 2014 I was approached by David Payne to create a “best of Fossils” release that would follow in the tracks of Food's Greatest Hits released October 2014. I mulled over several ideas for the release and what it should be composed of. Over the years of knowing about Fossils, playing shows with and eventually playing shows as part of Fossils I had accumulated a lot of recorded material from jams and shows. Dave's idea of putting out a release of this material got me thinking about the “greatest hits” idea (which was more-or-less intended as a tongue and cheek kind of joke) and completely changing it into something else.

This release of Fossils material is Fossils as seen from my perspective as a spectator and as a player in Fossils. The tapes in this anthology flow somewhat chronologically and took a few months of listening to finally have what I wanted ready for a release;there was hours of video footage and audio to pull from to get to what you have here. The feel for this anthology of Fossils material is a personal view-point and a lot of what you hear I put on because of what I was feeling with the atmosphere of the recordings from personally being there.

I have done what I can with mastering the audio which ranged from tape players, video cameras and cellphone audio. I ask you as a listener to put the fidelity aside and listen to what the sound of Fossils is. Sometimes it is the fidelity of a track that makes the sound; largely for me it is the moments I remember that make the track.

I ask you to enjoy what is represented here.
