This performance of the complete Chopin Ballades was recorded utilizing a specially designed low-noise mixer feeding into custom-built tape recording equipment, operating at 30" per second, and employing special 2-track recording heads and half inch magnetic tape. The recordings were audited through KLH-4 and AR-3 speakers.
The master disc was cut directly from a 30" master tape copy on the RIAA curve, and no additional equalization, compression, or artificial reverberation was employed. The latest techniques of variable depth recording were used, assuring the finest possible master disc, and a practically perfect match to the master tape.
The 4th Ballade was recorded a year earlier by Suprafon of Czechoslavakia. The original master tape was 1/4" but also operating at 30" per second.
