Dear Listener,We are proud to present you our third album, Our Dear Metropolis, which is our first truly personal album. An ode to our home city of Amsterdam, it is a celebration, but also a critique.
Cities are in perpetual motion and there has always been a dynamic of change, of old versus new. There is, however, a balance to be found in between growth and memory, and we question whether Amsterdam is losing that balance. We see overbearing tourism weighing heavily on our historic inner city and the forces of gentrification that are displacing rather than including urban communities. In the competition for space, the new is increasingly reserved for the lucky few. Will our dear metropolis lose its unique identity and its countercultural edge? This album represents our nostalgia for the past, our critique of the present, and our curiosity for the future of our dear metropolis.
Sonically, we owe a lot to our friends: musicians, DJs and purveyors of the good life who've offered us musical guidance throughout the years. You know who you are. There is a healthy "scene" surrounding us, but we wonder for how long. The rents aren't getting lower anytime soon...
