Gilead7’s content from his beginnings in hip-hop culture has been an attempt to do just that. ADVENT: A MODERN BIBLE is a constantly unraveling process of reflection on the idea of ultimacy (God) from all angles and the matching of this reflection with the actual motion of the world right now. The album, totally produced by I. B. Fokuz, poses questions of how religions can answer issues of ecological justice (“A Shade Above Black,” feat. Malakh), sexual morality and ethics (“My Girl and I”), theories of evolution as opposed to intelligent design (“Genesis 1 G7AV”), nihilism and self-destruction (“Suicide Note”), and just how to be a good MC and constructively battle bite rappers who lack the talent (“Gist”). Overall, ADVENT: A MODERN BIBLE is the first installment of Gilead7 and I.B. Fokuz’s diving into the idea of the mystery of “God,” and how this mystery is inseparably connected to the joy and pain of the universe.
