What is the place of Goat’s Notes in the Russian new music scene? Not so much in the new improvised music or free jazz although free improvisation remain one of the main features of their music. It is rather that their music has been inspired by the ethno-jazz-rock-folk-avantguard scene of Moscow, something like a Russian version of Zappa’s “Mothers of Invention”.
