Label: Yep Roc Records

The album Walking in the Green Corn was inspired by Native American traditions and my own Muskogee Creek familial and tribal connection. Most of the songs were written on the cusp of 2011 and 2012. The subject matter remained so personally compelling, however, that I continued to fixate on this theme, even as the album was in production and well after it was released.

“Red River,” a meditation on indigenous vitality, was one such song. I recorded two versions of the song in 2012 – one on guitar and the other on six-string banjo, the latter which I’ve elected to unveil as we mark the tenth-anniversary of the album.

“Billy Bowlegs,” an ode to the brave and defiant Seminole Chief, was written in early 2014, soon after I moved to Tennessee. This song and “Red River” represent companion pieces to the album, Walking in the Green Corn. It’s gratifying to finally share both of these songs after all these years.
