After the basement self-title, Pilot Light Out was my first venture into a semi-legit solo rock album. It's loud, sweaty, distorted but dialled-back when it needs to be, and also fairly cohesive for a 17-track banger. Romantic, spiritual and a bit pie-eyed, it's an achiever, and a laundry list of songs from an insecure 24 year old. After contacting a guy named Charles Austin (The Super Friendz) via email in the summer of 2001, I asked him about driving from Ottawa to record a full album in two days. He was leery of the arduous travel, but interested in the passion of the guerilla-style project. I played every instrument myself, and we blasted through a few 12 hour days. Charles added a voiceover and some slide guitar. It was a very romantic time for me, as I had just graduated university and the rock-world was my oyster - and in a way, PLO was the first pin on a wide open musical map of my life.released March 11, 2003
