"WHY" is the first encounter of two musicians we've been following closely for about 12 years with Indie Rock Mag. Therefore, this tenth reference of IRM Netlabel makes sense on several levels, and not only for its immersive atmospheres and elegiac melodies that perfectly embody our passion for cinematographic and textured instrumental music. It is indeed after discovering Stalsk, whose first LP we released last April, and collaborating with the other half of that duo (Arnaud Chatelard aka Innocent But Guilty) for the album "Basement" released in October that Grosso Gadgetto got in touch with Philippe Neau (formerly known as Nobodisoundz), himself an admirer of the former through his dark atmospheres both loud and melodic, underlined with massive hollow beats, whether they lean towards instrumental hip-hop with industrial sounds or something closer to dark ambient. From there started this remote collaboration, 4 tracks sketched out by the latter from field recordings, organic swarms, metallic sounds and sometimes collages of discreet melodies, like a receptacle for the dark energy of Grosso Gadgetto, who then took ownership of these sound spaces to fuel them with basses and sub-basses, harmonic digressions and upward melodic progressions, turning them into real sonic odysseys, both monumental and introspective. A feeling of ascension that ultimately inspired the artwork of Philippe Neau, also a painter and a plastician, with vertical lines made from photos of his paintings to convey the idea of of a passage towards the heights, particularly fitting with this musical journey which takes us from the disturbing and cavernous no man's land of "(end)", radiating with dark matter and metamorphic swarms of sounds, to the half-lyrical half-whispered reveries of the incredible final epic "lâcher de ballons", 20 minutes of mutating soundscapes going through all moods and all states of matter before returning to nothingness : https://indierockmag.bandcamp.com/album/why
