Recordings made by le Groupe de Recherches Musicales du Service de la Recherche de la R. T. F. (French Radio-Television), under the supervision of Pierre Schaeffer.

A1 completed May 1960, was written for 12 tracks on magnetic tape (temporarily reduced to 4) and a chamber orchestra. The latter consists of seven trombones, two pianos, and two percussionists, which contain, along with the marimbas, a few less usual sounding bodies tried out at the Studio du Groupe de Recherches Musicales, such as a metal sheet with strings.

B2 was performed in 1959 [not 1953 as stated on the cover] at the Groupe de Recherche Musicale de O.R.T.F. The work is on two magnetic tapes with are played simultaneously on two tape recorders.

The inside gatefold features liner notes in French.
First catalog number appears on sleeve, second one on labels.
