From back cover:The Guru Gita, or "Song of the Guru," is a Sanskrit hymn from the Indian scriptures in praise of the spiritual master, who imparts the highest knowledge to all seekers of the Truth. Called "the one indispensable text" by Swami Muktananda, the Guru Gita is chanted daily in Siddha Yoga ashrams and in the homes of Siddha Yoga devotees all over the world. The Guru Gita contains all the teachings of Siddha Yoga. Every syllable of the text is a mantra, the essence of the divine as manifest in the form of sound.
Swadhyaya, or the chanting of the sacred texts, is considered highly beneficial. Baba Muktananda said, "It is only swadhyaya that can nourish the inner heart." When we chant the Guru Gita, the mantras resonate within our inner being. Chanting the Guru Gita encompasses many of the practices of Siddha Yoga meditation, such as repetition of sacred mantras, contemplation, focus, and discipline in posture. Each recitation is an act of worship, a prayer. Over time with each recitation, understanding of the inner Self is deepened.
