Tell Me You Lied by Hélène Bolduc

Artists

Album Info

Release Date: 1982

Label: Solar Records

Maritime singer noted for her participation in '70s New Brunswick band Zylan (who recorded the "Rainbow, Dreams & Fantasies" album, aka "La Différence" in French, in 1973). Both sides of Helene's single were written by Lorne Marsh, a family medical doctor by profession hailing from Reserve Mines (Cape Breton), Nova Scotia with ties to the Nova Scotian music scene. "Tell Me You Lied" is a fast, guitar-charged rocker with early-'80s styled synths, somewhat similar in approach to Sam Moon's "See You Tonight" (another Maritime Canadian recording artist for whom Helene would sing backing vocals, both live and on Sam's "New Moon" album, also released in 1982). "Take It From Me" is a soulful mid-tempo serving of Carribean-flavoured pop (a style which Canadian singer Luba would bring to the charts with her first hit single, "Let It Go"). Marsh died from an aggressive bout of cancer on September 2nd, 2022: this entry is updated in his honour and memory.
