Album Info

Release Date: 1953

Label: Not On Label

Harry Partch trust fund first edition of Plectra & Percussion Dances, Satyr-Play Music for Dance Theatre. Special subscribers' edition of 500 copies pressed on green unbreakable 12-inch vinylite, numbered and signed by the composer.

The original autographed, numbered label is white with red lettering along a black spiral line with a space after the word "Number", where the hand written number is. The signature is written on an open area along the edge of the label and the handwriting roughly matches the style of the red label text. The other side label is black with a white spiral line and again the same red lettering. The cover may have the edition number written in pencil on the lower right of the back cover.

The green Vinylite pressing along with the exact same cover beyond the (500) autographed edition has a different label, one side with red and black eccentric rings and is white in the deep groove area, the other red and white concentric rings and black in the deep groove area. This label does not have the "Numbered" text with the space for writing a sequence number, and of course does not have the signature.

The instruments: Kithara, Surrogate Kithara, three Harmonic Canons, Chromelodeon, Diamond Marimba, Bass Marimba, Cloud-Chamber Bowls, Eroica and Wood-Block, Adapted Viola, Adapted Guitars.

On rear cover: * Castor -- 1. Kithara (& Surrogate Kithara) and Cloud-Chamber Bowls 2. Harmonic Canon and High Bass Marimba 3. Diamond Marimba and Low Bass Marimba Even Wild Horses -- ... Act 3 - Scene 1. "Had I Not Once a Love-ly Youth?" (as a conga). [In red:] * Deleted as a sacrificial offering to the jealous gods of technology.

Note that the images of the air letter copy of the rear cover page, envelope, and note to Mrs. Dobbins, show documents that came with one particular specimen. It is unlikely they were included in the general release of the album.
