Celebrating 20 years of music with a first release of early recordings."20 years ago I bought my first music making machine: a Roland MC-505. I lived in Barcelona where I worked at a small techno club called Moog. Here I got to know international DJs like Electric Indigo, Acid Maria, Andrea Parker, Eva Cazal and Cora S. I went to Berlin to visit Eva who then worked at Tresor and Cora who then worked at Hardwax. During my visit Eva got me a spontaneous DJ gig in the basement of Tresor. During my stay I met a Berlin DJ who just started her own label, her name was Ellen Allien. She had noticed the Moog t-shirts we were wearing and came over to talk to me. Later I booked her to DJ at Moog together with the first techno act on her label. She stayed at my flat and we talked about music. Then I went back to visit Berlin. Cora had planned a DJ gig for us at Ostgut (now Berghain), it was the first time I saw my name on a big poster. I had decided to buy a music instrument as I was curious to make my own music. I had ideas but didn’t know the first thing about any machines let alone music theory and technology. Ellen had an instrument for sale. I bought it and took it with me to Barcelona. I spent hours and hours in the evenings, my nights off and mornings after work making sound scapes, sound pictures, sounds to my youth experiences and my dreams. I was absorbed, this language made more sense to me than words. I recorded all my tracks by playing them live and after two years I had over 200 songs (all of them unreleased till now). By then I had a computer and was working on material for my first live act at the experimental LEM Festival in Barcelona 2002. Fast forward 20 years, I spent a day copying old back-up CDs to my hard drive. I’ve organised some of my 505 tracks into a set list that I call MC-505 BCN 2000. A time of youth, self education and adventure into music."
