One of the most under-rated of female Reggae singers, Hortense Ellis sister of Alton Ellis, was born to sing, her powerful, distinctive voice reached out like that of an angel. Grown in the tradition of great performers like Phyllis Dillon, Marcia Griffiths and Cynthia Richards, she enriched our lives with hercontribution to Reggae music. Throughout the seventies she had a number of hit singles e.g. I'm in love, Unexpected places, With all my heart working with various producers, but the bulk of her work was for Bunny Lee. However, Hortense Ellis remained a loving mother, dedicated to her family.
