Bells are intended to get your attention. They’re designed to be struck, with that percussive action creating tones that pierce the air. A bell strikes the hour on a clock. Bells chime through a school to signal when it’s time for kids to move to a different class. There’s a small bell attached to dogs’ collars so that we can keep track of where they are. Bells can also signal entry into a sacred space, like a church or tabernacle. They help to gather community but also have this resonant, trance inducing power. And yet, bells are often ignored precisely because they’re so ubiquitous. We began this journey by looking around and noticing all the bells in our sonic environments that we hadn’t considered before. We each recorded the bells that surround us and sculpted those resonant chimes into the music on this album.
