Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s life and work served as Igor Boxx’s latest inspiration, which effected in a collage of twelve songs from various musical styles. Richness of literary themes is equal to plurality of musical means of expression. It’s packed with Orthodox choirs, synthesized ornaments, guitar riffs, breakbeats, electronic arpeggios, orchestral chords and manipulating vinyl. The idea is to create a sonic equivalent of an epileptic trance, a religious revelation, frenzy of an antigovernment conspiracy, thrill of gambling, excrutiating monotony of a labour camp, rapture of love and hate and disharmony of sacrum and profanum.
“Fyodor” has a subplot casting among many - as if it was a pop cultural drama - Ian Curtis, John Lennon and Syd Barrett as alter egos of Dostoyevsky’s characters’ – with each having an especially dedicated song: „The Idiot’s Lost Control”, „Power to the Demons”, and „Careful With That Axe, Rodion”. Suicide, murder, and mayhem lend themselves to create disturbing and dark music.
It Might Get Loud and There Will Be Blood.
