- "This is the first recording of a version of this symphony in which the poems are sung in the original languages. Prepared by Jorg Morgener, it was presented to Shostakovich during the ISME Congress held in Moscow in 1971. Shostakovich replied with a minor alteration to "Der Tod des Dichters" to accommodate the German text. He expressed further approval of this version during a visit to West Berlin in 1973."
