James follows up his 2020 album "Bones" (released by link2wales records) with a very different collection of songs. Whereas "Bones" was a collection of spontaneously composed intimate lockdown pieces, utilising programmed percussion and keyboards in addition to other instruments, "Spite Bile and Beauty" captures a selection of James' songs which will be familiar to anyone who has seen him perform live over the past few years.Generally the songs are more upbeat, humorous and concise (on some occasions very concise!) and are performed on an array of exotic instruments from James' extensive collection. Some are gentle and acoustic, others rock out with distorted guitars. Producer Alan Holmes joins in on a couple of tracks on metal percussion, additional vocals, and possibly Tibetan singing bowl (they had too much fun recording to make detailed notes).
