"Look Records offer to produce this album gave me the opportunity of realising an ambition to record a programme of solos more wide-ranging in styles than the selection of 'traditional' cornet solos i had previously recorded to brass or piano accompaniment. As the title suggests, we drew up a programme in which contrasts were to be achieved by featuring the different tones of cornet, trumpets and flugel-horn in solos of many styles and by varying the accompanimental sound by selective addition of voices, a wind quintet, the Versatile Brass ensemble and guitars to a foundation of keyboard (including synthesizers) and percussion. I hope that the results will offer something to please every listener, whatever your tastes or mood..."
