Artists

Album Info

Label: British Broadcasting Corporation

A pair of trumpets found by Howard Carter in Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922 were sounded before a live audience of an estimated 150 million listeners through an international BBC broadcast on 16 April 1939. The trumpets were played by bandsman James Tappern of Prince Albert's Own 11th Royal Hussars.

The recording appeared in two Dr Who stories and was employed as source material for various Radiophonic Workshop compositions, including Delia Derbyshire's "Tutankhamun's Egypt".
