Without exaggeration, in accordance with the years we have dedicated to music chronicles, a project of this nature had not been produced. Its political and cultural discourse is forceful, combative and transcendental, due to its timeliness, as its title suggests: ‘De Guerreros y Batallas’.Don Pedro Albizu Campos, Ángel Luis Torruellas, Julia de Burgos and other immortals of the Homeland are evoked through a repertoire of original compositions in which, in another point in his favour, Ferrao collaborates with artists such as iLe, Eduardo Zayas, Endel Dueño and the poet Eric Landrón, among other respectable talents, in what also represents a very relevant gathering for the plena genre.
Some of the compositions are “La Armada de Albizu Campos”, “No será lo mismo”, “En un lugar de La Mancha”, “Latinoamérica” and “La fiesta de los colores”, among seven others, including “La Tumba Honda”.
It is a double album, with performances that often exceed eight minutes in length. It is a political work, denouncing our colonial condition and reaffirming the cultural plena.
“De Guerreros y Batallas” is to be listened to carefully, with concentration and receptivity to the message contained in the proposal of a young adult who has developed as an exponent of folklore since childhood and who, parallel to his career in music, has contributed as a federated teacher to education in Puerto Rico.
