In early 2019, in a two room apartment above the Plank Road Tavern in Lakewood Ohio, Joe Wunderle’s first widely released full length album Nowhere From Here was recorded. The street sounds through the windows and the barroom downstairs leak into the 11 - track release giving it an authentic hand-rolled feel. The album features no co-writes or covers. Wunderle’s writing tells of mankind’s continual demise and rise from struggle from all things personal to surreal. His songs give wisdom through experience and mirror the lives of the everyday people that haunt our sidewalks and roadways.
The album features an all-star cast of players: Anthony Papaleo (Mo’ Mojo & Rebekah Jean) on a cheerful fiddle, Jason Willis (Cory Grinder Band) on upright bass, Austin Stambaugh (singer-songwriter) on mandolin, and Stephen “Tebbs” Karney (pedal steel giant of Rodney & The Regulars) plays a pedal steel like a paralyzing wave over Wunderle’s folkstyle guitar melodies.
Nowhere From Here is released to DIY label American Primitive. The label was first started by Austin Stambaugh & Joe Wunderle in 2019 to document a crop of new guitar players and songwriters. It is the congratulated second release from the label and is available on all streaming services and platforms May 31, 2020.
Joe Wunderle is a songwriter guitarist from northeast Ohio. He is a classic American character borderline myth and has supported national artists such as Malcolm Holcombe, Lost Dog Street Band, and The Tillers. He currently lives in Cincinnatti, OH.
