Wild World by Jonathan King

Artists

Album Info

Release Date: 1987

Label: Rhino Records

In 1987, Jonathan King accused the Pet Shop Boys of plagiarizing the melody from Cat Stevens’ “Wild World” in their song It's A Sin. To prove his point, he released this cover, with music imitating “It’s a Sin” but with modified lyrics from “Wild World”. The sleeve also is a parody of PSB’s Actually album cover. The Pet Shop Boys successfully sued King for defamation and donated the results to charity.

The B-side song was also the subject of a historic plagiarism lawsuit, when George Harrison was sued by the estate of Ronnie Mack for similarities between "He's So Fine" and Harrison's "My Sweet Lord".
