April 1, 2006
Directed by the prestigious pianist and composer Adrián Iaes, Sjazz is currently one of the Argentine labels that by force of talent and good music has become a meeting place for new and old generations of a musical style that, although it has a long tradition in the gaucho country, has consolidated itself record for only about four years to come. With a catalog that exceeds ten albums, Sjazz publishes Argentine jazz musicians who reside in their country and who have developed a successful career such as the trumpeter Juan Cruz de Urquiza. Leader of the famous Urban Quintet, Urquiza presents "De este lado", his first recording to which he puts his own signature and which exalts him as one of the most interesting soloists in his country. Together with a young quartet made up of Miguel Tarzia on the electric guitar, Mariano Otero on the double bass and Daniel "Pipi" Piazolla on the drums, the trumpeter shows all his talent on the instrument through personal compositions such as the energetic "Idea 3" and "Behind the instinct" in addition to "Miulá", composition by pianist Guillermo Klein. As if that were not enough, Urquiza also demonstrates his cunning as an arranger and gives us his version of "Promises on the bidet", Charly García's classic and perhaps one of the stellar moments of the album.
