Recorded August '91, Germany. The flyer that comes with the release says (very roughly translated):
Brutal Death Metal, challenging and technically advanced. Is that even possible?
To answer that question, the two guitarists Mike Gage (ex-Forced Entry/STS mission) and Oliver Ullrich (sic) founded "Jumpin' Jesus" in July of 1989. At first, it proved tough to find fellow musicians in and around Cologne, but the band was finally complete by 1990. Under quite adventurous circumstances, the Polish drummer Bobby Ferdula ("I will kill you all with ultra speed") joined and as bassist, Rene Genschweski could be persuaded to join. Miro Pavelic took over lead vocals. Directly afterwards, they headed into the studio to record a demo tape, on which guitarist Mike had to do the vocals as the vocalist was absent (quoting him: "If there's one thing I cannot do, it's singing"). With that tape under their belt, the Jumpin' Jesus (called by Live Wire the "Best unsigned Death Band of Germany") built goodwill in the Death Metal underground, e.g. as supporting act for Benediction, Massacra and Lunacy. In July of '91, Morbid Music became aware of them during a gig in the "Mucke Fuck" (Mucke Fuck is the German term for substitute coffee. It was a club in Cologne at that time) in Cologne and in September the same year, the debut "The Art Of Crucifying" was recorded. Miro's unmistakable vocal style, Bobby's excessive drumming and the borderline experimental style of the guitarists is very notable. The lyrics are mostly dealing with critical-mystical motives.
