WESTER was recorded in a Denver living room over five or four snowy and sweltering spring days. It began as a long distance collaboration between John Hickey and James Meakim, who met across a high school cafeteria table in suburban New York some 18 years earlier. The result is a batch of unfussy folk-pop tunes constructed from clattering guitars and drunks-choir singalongs. There are deep mountainous drums and momentary forays into feedback drone. There are some synthesizers and a few guitar solos. The first song is about a baby and the last song is about growing old and dying. Only one song has a harmonica but I won't spoil it for you.
The limited edition, handmade cassette edition of WESTER is presented by Whprwhil Records, based in Seattle.
