THE GHOSTS OF LYCIA (1988-1990)
Prior to the release of Ionia in 1991, Lycia recorded dozens of songs. While Wake was recorded and released during that time, stronger and more vibrant material was also recorded (prior to and after the Wake sessions). Due to a general state of drunkenness, as well as being quite inexperienced with the recording equipment, most of the songs from the early Lycia days were recorded quickly and sloppily. The plans were to someday re-record, but instead the material was overlooked as Lycia continued to move forward.
In an attempt to document that time frame, a restoration project has been started to salvage (as best as can be) these important early songs. The source cassette tapes were/are in a severe state of deterioration, so the main goal of this restoration project was/is to improve the sound quality as best as possible. There are still “pops”, “drop outs” and “glitches”, as well as “hiss”, “muddiness” and countless other problems associated with old cassettes. Due to these sound limitations the decision was made to make this material available for free downloading. Below are the first eight songs. More will be added as the restoration continues.
