Awethu - Is ours (Zulu language)
Maatla - Power (Xhosa language)
Aruna - Is ours (Xhosa language)
Kwazulu, Bophutatswana, Transkei, Lebowa are areas of South Africa called ’bantustans’ where black families lived without their men folk work hundreds of miles away in the big cities.
Amandla, Awethu is the black power slogan, often chanted at funerals and meetings wherever opposition is expressed.
Azania is the black power name for South Africa.
Zulu, Sotho, Xhosa, Swazi, Tsonga and Venda African tribes.

Original credits:
African vocal sequences were recorded by Matt Irving ’Somewhere in Africa' in June 1982, using an 8 track mobile tape recorder. These tapes were later synchronised with the master tapes in London using computer code.
Other African sequences were recorded in London and we'd like to think the singers - Chief Dawethi, Rufus Sefothuma, Fats Mothya, Jabu Mbalu and Zanty Lekau.
We'd like to thank Jane Curtiss, Robert Stewart, Rik Walton, Bryan New, John Parry, Glenn in Sweden, and Saul Oz.
