Massimo Colombo
Virtual Piano

As an artist, he combines the esthetic of jazz with the harmony and style of the great classical European music from Bach to Debussy. His proposal to the audience appears as “blues not blues”,
based on our historical understanding and acoustic perception of this genre, of its narrative structure.
Massimo Colombo, in a courageous way, aims to separate blues from its original characteristics in order to use its structure in a different esthetic context, that of contemporary European jazz. By doing so, he proves its versatility and its numerous expressive traits, even outside of its original environment.
The compositions display a wide range of distinctive features, from abstract chamber music to the atmospheres of Romanticism, from the 18th century to Gershwin, experienced as “memories”, reinvented in a fully contemporary fashion and often written with a style that recalls improvisation.
