“Some months before the exhibition ‘Rhythm’ took place I approached Hans Keuls in his studio having thoughts about a project which played around in my mind for some time. The question was very simple; would Hans allow me to respond to one or more of his paintings sonically and would it be appropriate to present both mine and his work in a retrospective exhibition? I was intrigued by two specific works and had this urge to translate the emotions they represent by the use of field recordings which in my opinion capture the typical atmospheres of the corresponding paintings. The spectator would then be able to listen to the audio by headphones and view the paintings at the same time making it possible to experience a more synesthetic and intimate experience.” MK


“Enkele maanden voor de expositie ‘Rhythm’ plaatsvond, benaderde ik Hans Keuls in zijn atelier met een projectvoorstel wat lang door mijn hoofd had gespeeld. De vraag was simpel; zou Hans mij toestaan om op auditieve wijze te reageren op een of meer van zijn schilderijen en zou het passend zijn dat tijdens een overzichtsexpositie van zijn werk te presenteren? Ik was geïntrigeerd door twee specifieke werken en had de drang om de emoties die ze dragen te vertalen met gebruik van veldopnames die naar mijn mening de typische atmosfeer van de bijbehorende schilderijen wisten te vertalen. De toeschouwer zou dan in staat zijn om het geluid via hoofdtelefoons te beluisteren en tegelijk de schilderijen te bekijken waardoor het mogelijk zou worden een synesthetische, intieme ervaring te beleven.” MK
