Album Info

Release Date: 1996-02-27

Label: Caroline Records

Issued with an oval hype sticker applied to the shrink wrap front and a larger sticker with more details on the shrink wrap back.

First pressing is limited to 50,000 copies and includes 3 separate slim cases for the first 3 CDs, a special case for the Static Age CD with a separate 4-page booklet as it does not fit into the special case, plus a 'special enamel Fiends Club badge'.

The second pressing Misfits - The Misfits Box Set does not include the special Static Age case and booklet. Some copies of the second pressing include the 'Fiend Club' pin/badge and some do not.

All pressings are issued in a coffin-shaped box with red felt lining and include a 28-page booklet with liner notes, discography, photos, and lyrics.

CD3 - "Sessions" is a series of non-album recordings (rarities, outtakes, alternative takes) collected from various studio sessions, most lack an exact date or studio names. Tracks from "Sessions (1977)" are previously released on Cough/Cool, but are remixed here.

CD4 - "Static Age" tracks are recorded in one studio session in 1978, but never released in a collected album format until this box set, since a planned release on Halloween 1995 was cancelled.
The subsequent Static Age Lp release in 1997 contains 3 additional tracks and a new mix, but it lacks the first and last 'Static Noise' tracks (4-01 and 4-16) that are included here, but are not mentioned on the tracklists.

The title 'The Misfits Box Set' is not to be found on the release itself, but evolved and stuck over time since the release is accompanied by Misfits - A Special Sampler Edition Of The Misfits Box-set (CAR 7529) and was marketed as 'The Misfits Coffin-Shaped Box Set' on cardboard posters by Caroline Records.
The exact title 'The Misfits Box Set' has been used in the discography of misfitscentral.com early on, possibly the origin of this title here on discogs.
