About the editors:
Muriel Dawley and Roberta McLaughlin represent an ideal combination of talents, to introduce to children the rich heritage of Indian music of our North American Tribes. Both have an exceptionally wide experience in the education of children, as classroom teachers and music supervisors, Miss Dawley in the state of Washington, Mrs. McLaughlin in California. Today they work together as consultants for the Los Angeles County Schools.

Miss Dawley, who is part Chippewa, was brought up near a reservation in Minnesota, and while teaching in Washington State she kept in close contact with the various reservations in that area. Mrs. McLaughlin's long term interest in music of the American Indian, whetted by trips to tribal gatherings in the Southwest, together with Miss Dawley's life-long background of experiences, contribute toward the wonderful choice and variety of songs in this album.

The vocal interpretation by Miss Dawley and Mr. Wittel (Music Supervisor for the Hawthorne Schools in California) expresses the authentic quality of Indian music.

Years of collecting and testing with children determined the choice of songs. A playing of this recording will immediately communicate to boys and girls, parents and teachers the excitement and beauty of the North American Indian music.
