For Track 2, "From Heaven Above", the song was first published as a hymn in 1535, with the title "A children's song on the Nativity of Christ". In that publication, the text was coupled to the melody of the then well-known secular song "Ich kumm aus fremden Landen her" ('I am from foreign lands'). Then in 1539, the hymn was published with a new melody that was composed by Martin Luther (3) himself. This is the melody now universally associated with the lyrics, familiar from chorale preludes by Johann Sebastian Bach, Dieterich Buxtehude, and others.
