Album Info

Release Date: 2007

Label: Heavy Tapes

"Rope Pores" is the second in a series of books presented by Heavy Tapes in an attempt to document the amazing visual talents and obsessions of some of contemporary experimental music's finest practitioners. Nate Nelson plays drums, percussion, and electronics in the 21st-century caveman destruction group Mouthus, and also lends his amazing talents to keep the beat for NY out-rock group Religious Knives. Fans may know his visual work from the series of covers he has done for the nearly 20 CDRs released by Mouthus's "Our Mouth" label, which range from tight and thin towers of ink to overblown contrasting visions. "Rope Pores" is a repetitive and incredible journey toward scraping away the painfully thin layer separating the concrete and the abstract. Through thin lines, tight pockets, and sprawling organic structures, Nelson presents an intense and storied vision, along with an accompanying and beautiful piece of music -- a tape composition composed over roughly the same period of time that the visual work was being completed. Edition of 100, signed and numbered by the artist.
