Musician and sound designer Nathan Moody celebrates 20 years of producing electronic music with his tenth solo release, a sweeping, epic album that doesnt use a single synthesizer or sampler. The Right Side of Mystery features sounds generated entirely by instruments the artist made himself, from stringed instruments to percussive devices. One early listener called this release "post-apocalyptic Appalachian doom." Indeed, at various turns, the compositions make references to post-rock, folk music, tribal ritual music, industrial experimentalism, ambient music, and much more...without neatly fitting into any of these. The songs on The Right Side of Mystery carom from loose and warped, to mechanized and brutal, to blissful and moving. Genre references are spawned, then disintegrate, and merge into a uniquely cinematic journey propelled by hypnotic strums and plucks, apocalyptic junkyard percussion, eerie timbres from bowed metal and springs and, for the first time in his work, the human voice.
