For some of our followers OTHER_FORMAT will be a new name but the earliest contribution dates back to 2009, collaborating with XZICD under the probably more familiar name CUT_REPEAT. For our more die hard followers, this marks the end of a long wait. Plenty of o_F music has been briefly glimpsed in the outback of the interweb, to then disappear never to be heard again. Now all those rare long lost specimens will get their own Hardiskeology series. Being a gentleman of criteria, o_F's releases come across as concept albums or studies. Starting with OPERATOR, that comes across as a workout in FM synthesis, in a relentless set of 8. The cover design by o_F says everything about the approach without giving away the mood. Also featured is a remix of another modfreak we all know and love - XZICD, which didn't make it in time for BSL_051.

Some notes on ‘Operator’:
- - - - - - - - - - - - -

most tracks recorded during 2013 then abandoned for a couple of years. Few extra tracks finished off during 2015 and all original tracks reworked.

Primarily uses FM synthesis methods for its sound palette, could possibly be some very minimal use of non FM generated sound I can’t really remember. Pretty much 100% FM (including all percussion sounds).

Sounds were harvested from various FM sources - some hardware (DX7 / TX81Z / a circuit bent PSS-140) and some software too (Ableton Operator / FM8 / VOPM). I made sets of sample packs from these sounds then sequenced them in ableton live and layered with more FM synthiness.

Track 8 is a remix of XZICD track ‘Defth’ from the 2013 release ‘Denocleosis Reutomaghafth’. I never finished the remix in time for the original release but felt it fit the end of the ep nicely and feels right with the rest of the FM palette vibe going on. Thanks to Francisco for allowing me to include it here! Check out his bandcamp page:http://xzicd.bandcamp.com/

Massive thanks to Jfrank Brainstormlab for being supportive and enthusiastic about my output and for consistently providing us with awesome music from amazing artists.
