Paweł Gusnar is a versatile artist, esteemed soloist, chamber musician, teacher and persistent promoter of Polish saxophone pieces. “Reviewers admire the freedom and ease with which he can find his place is any style, his virtuosity and ways of building a musical narration, and his skill to combine technical perfection with attention to any details of sound quality. In his hands the saxophone becomes an unfailing tool for discovering new qualities” (Emilia Dudkiewicz).Saxophone Varie vol. 3 – a two-CD album by Paweł Gusnar with contemporary Polish chamber music for the saxophone, continuing the trend set by two previous original albums of this artist with the same title (the first one won the Fryderyk award in 2004). This time the saxophonist juxtaposes compositions meant for different configurations of two, three and four instruments (CD 1) with works for saxophone ensembles – a quartet and a quartet with solo alto saxophone (CD 2).
The presented compositions were written by: Romuald Twardowski, Anna Ignatowicz-Glińska, Paweł Mykietyn, Paweł Łukaszewski, Aleksander Kościów, Alicja Gronau, Bartosz Kowalski, Krzysztof Herdzin. Seven out of eight recorded compositions have their phonographic premieres.
Different phenomena coexist and penetrate one another, and they are used to present sound, expression and technical qualities of saxophones in a classical quartet and to show the universality and diversity of this instrument in different line-up options. The performers include a group of the finest Polish chamber musicians.
The CDs were released as hard-cover albums with an extensive 60-page booklet.
Recorded in 2013–2018 in Warsaw and Katowice.
