Soul Sister Phyllis Nelson's childhood was stepped in song & dance - she had sung with her brothers & sisters as The Nelson Five in her pre-teen years.
Although she recorded as a solo artist for Atlantic as a teenager, much of her early career saw her in supporting roles in Brown Sugar, a Philadelphia vocal group; in Major Harris's road show; and with Brandy Wells in Breeze and Philly Cream, who scored an US hit with "Ain't No More Motown Review"., She eventually moved to Europe in the early 80's where she cut "Don't Stop The Train" which spent 6 months on the US charts and became an European Disco hit, as did "Stop, Don't Do This To Me", the follow-up.
She finally cracked the big time in 1985 with "Move Closer" her massive worldwide hit which topped the UK charts and inspirred munerous cover versions - notably Tom Jones who scored heaviliy with his version of this sultry, sensuous ballad in 1989.
