Track notes:
Tracks 1 to 6 were recorded in the period 1996-1998 using a cheap guitar, a few effects pedals, an ancient drum machine and a cassette 4-track. At the time, they were never intended for release or mass consumption - they were recorded purely for fun. As such, they contain flaws, imperfections and the occasional mistake. Collectively, they represent the recordings made prior to the first Portal single "Hydro-electric", an alternative version of which appears here, and show something of the development of the music. These tracks later appeared on a limited edition cassette that was given to family and friends at Christmas in 2000. A few copies were also sold via the Portal website.
Tracks 7 and 8 appeared on a compilation cassette with the fanzine 'Aluminaut'. "Find the Voice" is a remix by Schengen of the Portal track "Lost". Track 9 was originally donated to Ivystone Records for a Simon & Garfunkel tribute album that was sadly never released. It features one of the first vocals on a Portal track by Rachel Hughes.
(Sleeve notes from the original release)

Please note that the sound quality really is not brilliant for some of these tracks. They were literally the first recordings that I ever made onto cassette four-track and they have not been sonically improved in any way.
