This is the original 1985 version of Protest Songs, eventually released in 1989 with "A Life of Surprises" added and the tracks re-ordered and edited. A very small number of test pressings made it out of the record company and were widely bootlegged.

On this pressing, "Wicked Things" is about 50% longer (presumably reduced to make space for A Life of Surprises, but the fade out is brutal on the released album) and has far more vocal harmonies, it's also missing the initial "harp" intro. The long version of "The World Awake" included here was later issued as on the "I Remember That" CD single. "Dublin" seems to have a slightly different mix. Side 2 seems essentially very similar or the same as the 1989 release.
