Recorded live at Page Auditorium, Durham, NC (Duke U) on September 26, 1984, by the professional mobile unit of Reflection Sound Studios (based in Charlotte, NC). A cassette dub from the master reels was subsequently obtained by a Reflection intern and shared with two collectors, one a journalist who had also made an audience recording and the other a Florida based bootlegger, who created this 2nd-gen vinyl bootleg mostly from the cassette dub of the professional Reflection reels. Once the LPs were in circulation the R.E.M. organization was displeased due to text on the sleeve suggesting it was a product of the band’s official fan club. An informal cease/desist deal was eventually brokered when the bootlegger provided the band with a box of LPs and also pledged to stop distribution while also pledging not to bootleg the band in the future.
