Rainbow Band's debut album (tracks 1 to 6) was first recorded July and August 1970 with vocals by Lars Bisgaard and released December same year as Rainbow Band.

After vocalist Bisgaard was replaced by Allan Mortensen in December 1970 they re-recorded the album and re-released it in February 1971 as Rainbow Band. Tracks 7 to 13 originates from this album. After the band was forced to change name over legal issues the second version was reissued once again as the eponymously named Midnight Sun.

Issued in a standard jewel case with a 16-page booklet.
