This EP contains some of the first recordings I’ve made for the last 10 years.
Circumstance – and circumstances – (both fell and clutch) meant that there
was never the money, nor the peace, nor time to record.
However over that period I have been writing and conjuring up a full
length release to follow the last. And these recordings were made for that.
They are released as orchestral sessions here, as I’ve released orchestral
and instrumental versions alongside a full release in the past and wanted
to do this, this time, before a full release. And to also release a film of the
performance and session behind the scenes as well.
Also it’s possible to be so precious about following up something you held
dear yourself, that you can lose your way, or take too long, or run out of
steam. So this was a chance to release something before that happened.
Some pieces such as the Toccata are intended to have rhythm in the final
recording. Others such as ‘Vale’ or A Drawing-Down of Blinds / Valedico are
close to how they will appear finally.
As the focus is on the orchestral sessions these renditions of the Toccata (no
rhythm) and ‘The Return’ (rhythm turned down) are deliberately held back.
I’d hope another EP such as this could released in some months time and
the recording process continued.
