Robert Jan Stips - Rembrandt 2000

This CD contains a great deal of the music I was invited to create as an audio contribution to the 'Rembrandt 2000' exhibition, taking place in the last months of the first millennium [22 9 1999 / 7 1 2000] in The Hague, Holland

By isolating typical pieces of baroque 'language' and moving them into new surroundings I was getting close to a picture of what could have been Rembrandts fantasy about the future music in the year 2000: 'Barock-With-A-Twist'.

1-10 The music based on this idea was made to sound in the huge wooden stairwell of the majestic 'conTemporary Museum'

11 & 16 Two of the several sound effects blasting loud from the ceiling in this alternative Rembrandt exhibition

14 & 15 Composed for a room on the first floor, where the music partly turns into sound scapes reflecting Rembrandt's emotional world

17 The piece that Paul van Oudenallen used for his video contribution to the exhibition, which resulted in the beautiful video about this mystic intriguing person and painter called Rembrandt.
