Zinc Pear by Robyn Hitchcock, The Soft Boys

Artists

Album Info

Release Date: 1981

Label: Armageddon Records

Different track listing to the retail version of the album. Order is different. Does not include "Brenda's Iron Sledge", does include "Happy The Golden Prince", "Ralph Give Me A Spanner" and "It's A Mystic Trip".

"The Man Who Invented Himself" does not include a saxophone, unlike the original UK release version. "Happy The Golden Prince" is just the title repeated several times, not the full song and plays after a long silence at the end of side 1. "It's A Mystic Trip" is after a locked groove on side 2 and ends in a locked groove with music.

In a 1981 interview with Sounds magazine, Robyn Hitchcock said "maybe rock archivists will have noted the inner groove on 'Black Snake' bearing the matrix CUT 2. This is because the first version of the album, titled 'ZINC PEAR', was scrapped at the last minute. We changed the running order, and took out an accoustic song called 'Gimme A Spanner Ralph' because it didn't quite fit, a nice old song I wrote for Dean Martin. And there's a song called 'It's A Mystic Trip' which we took out as well because it's a bit too flippant."

Runouts: hand-etched except 'TOWNHOUSE'.
