Excerpt from Back Cover Notes by John Lomax III, 08/30/21:
Rocky Hill (1946-2009) electric guitarist with the most amazing tone, older brother to late ZZ Top's Dusty and mentor to both Stevie Ray Vaughn and Doyle Bramhall II, Rocky never earned the acclaim his talent merited. The same could be said of Doyle Bramhall (1949-2011) who shines here on both vocals and drums. Doyle is a legend in his own right helping launch Stevie Ray Vaughn’s career – playing drums for Stevie Ray as well as writing songs for him. Bassist Dobie Malone, a well respected name in music circles rounds out the talents of the trio. HOUSTON BLUES THROWDOWN presents the only recordings to feature Rocky and Doyle, so sit back and enjoy the magical moments they deliver here, highlights from two hot Houston nights!
