From Liner Notes: "It’s Been Here All Along is music that feels like coming out of a long, dark period, as we all have done this past year during the pandemic. It’s music that I made with the feeling that we’re beginning to put things back together. It’s a mixed bag of hope, loss, perseverance and cautious optimism.Music is good for those times. The times where normally I’d sit and wonder about what is coming next, or be hopeful that loved ones will be safe, or mournful of the heavy losses we as a people have suffered this past year while grateful that my family has been OK so far. Music is a way to channel all of those thoughts and create something that represents this period.
It’s Been Here All Along is a solo guitar double LP made in the Spring of 2021. I recorded these eighteen songs with the idea that I’d edit them down and pick a few for a new release, but to me they all flow together nicely and need to be kept together. The music was recorded onto my two-track reel to reel (a gift from my father-in-law) over three days.
I played resonator guitar exclusively on this record. The ghosts and voices and wails that live inside that instrument provided the inspiration to keep creating. All of these songs are made using my Freeport tuning (CGCGCD).
The artwork for this LP was made by Sacramento painter Jackie Wada, who is a friend and been a big part of my daughter’s life through sports and mentorship. - RH, 2021 "
